Westmont selected to acquire Château Montebello
PricewaterhouseCoopers selected Mississauga-based Westmont Hospitality Group to acquire the 211-room Château Montebello, an Evergrande-owned Canadian resort placed on the market in 2024. The process generated 33 initial letters of intent, narrowed to 19 qualified bidders, 11 binding offers and five finalists, according to the Ottawa Citizen. Evergrande acquired the property in 2014 as its first major Canadian real-estate investment.
The transaction remains subject to Quebec Superior Court approval at an Aug. 3 hearing in Montreal. Château Montebello will continue operating under Fairmont’s brand and management after closing. For creditors tracking Evergrande’s global liquidation, the selection advances a trophy asset from marketing to a defined exit and leaves court approval as the principal closing gate; the depth of bidding also gives PwC a record supporting value maximization.
