Breitburn Energy Partners LP’s Chapter 11 case was closed on January 14, 2025, by the final decree Dkt. 2936. The subsequent January 21, 2025 order Dkt. 2937 made termination of Kroll’s claims and noticing services conditional on delivery of final claims registers and archiving of proofs of claim, establishing the final administrative steps without reporting their completion.
Breitburn Energy Partners LP’s Chapter 11 case was closed on January 14, 2025, under the final decree Dkt. 2936, following its plan’s confirmation and effectiveness in 2018. The decree preserved plan distributions and substantive rights, the reorganized debtors’ rights to dispute claims, and the court’s retained jurisdiction over plan-related matters. It also directed payment of outstanding U.S. Trustee fees and applicable interest within 14 days and filing of a final quarterly disbursement report through the decree’s entry date.
The oil and natural gas partnership and its subsidiaries filed Chapter 11 on May 15, 2016. The first-day declaration Dkt. 13 attributed the financial distress to falling commodity prices following expansion through acquisitions. Cuts to distributions, capital spending and workforce, together with additional financing, proved insufficient; Breitburn missed a $46.7 million interest payment in April 2016 before seeking bankruptcy protection.
The court’s August 19, 2016 final financing order Dkt. 431 authorized a senior secured DIP revolving facility with commitments of up to $150 million and limited use of cash collateral to support operations during the restructuring. The court then confirmed the Third Amended Joint Chapter 11 Plan, with technical modifications, on March 26, 2018 Dkt. 2387. The notice filed April 12, 2018 Dkt. 2426 reported the plan’s effectiveness.
The latest administrative milestone was the January 21, 2025 order terminating Kroll’s services Dkt. 2937. Termination was conditioned on Kroll preparing final claims registers for the Clerk’s Office and boxing and transporting proofs of claim to the Federal Archives as directed by the clerk. The order authorized the estate to bear those final service costs; completion of those tasks was not reported.
